yeah... I'm not sure on those.. the only suspect thing I can see is the asymmetrical placing of the belt loops... ;)

They should be fine...

They will... they're wool.

But you WILL get used to it and they WILL itch less over time.

In this weather put some thermals on underneath to reduce the itching.

Not a bad idea, I put a long sleeved teeshirt on under my US wool shirt for the very same reason :)

Not related to this thread, but just ordered my s.staffs beret badge, putties and a skelaton waterbottle holder

Puttees were not really worn by the south staffs, you'd be better with gaiters, puttees were an sas thing mainly.

The belt loops on the trousers should be asymetrical, i cant recall the reason for this off hand but i think its to do with the connecting buttons between jacket and trousers.

Mine are off centre.

But that far off centre? They're way off...

On puttees... to wear gaiters you'll need ankle boots or some boots with a narrow top...

Heh, uniform turned up this morning. :P :P

Now, here's an interesting thing - that weird Canadian collar tab (or whatever is was) is no longer there. It it's place two hook and eyes that look right to my untrained eyes.

The wool quality feels good - I don't think it's quite as heavy as my post war stuff but the weave is firm (not loose like Sanjay's) and fairly soft to the touch.

It will be there for your inspection on Sunday!

I'd heard someone asked him about the collar tab and that it'd been changed to be correct. Its good to hear that is true.

From your description the Serge sounds pretty good. From the pictures it looked a little darker and more choclately than the post war stuff, is that right?

I'm looking forward to see it as I may have to get some more trousers to replace the ones I ripped... (just for best wear)

I'm still waiting for mine to arrive, could this be the 2nd time that Keith lets me down, it took him 4 months to admit that he never sent my USMC bottoms.

OK, comparison with HK Keith wool and '49 type.

The difference is surprisingly marked. Keith's is lighter in colour (drinking chocolate powder brown), thinner and has the weave visible. The original is courser, thicker, has a felt nap with no weave visible and has a mottled colour being made from lower quality mixed source fibres, no doubt. The internal reinforcing, pocket linings and facings are less substantial than the original.

So, I'm guessing the repro 'suffers' from a more refined and modern base material - having said that it looks like Yith's 'best' to me from memory, we'll have to see how it stacks up side-by-side on Sunday.

Cripes, I hope I pass kit inspection!

I am seriously thinking of getting some of these, are they worth the money compared to the sof ones (or are the sof ones cheapass chinese made and just have a 50% markup on them?)

Hi Uberwaller

I have a BD jacket from Keith. When will you next be at Xsite? I will bring or wear it along and you can have a look at it.

Just keep in mind that a lot of people have had problems with getting kit from Keith lately, there's a thread about it in the SS part of the forum.

Also Warhorse do a complete P37 or P40 including a GS cap for £150 http://www.warhorsetradingpost.com/cat14.htm which is supposed to be good quality, although I understand they're a bit slow on shipping
